Terms of Use

This document details the terms and conditions for use of townofburlington.ca. All registered users are subject to these terms, and violation thereof may result in suspension of account or permanent bans. These conditions, and the appropriate responsive actions, are explained below.

Note that no action by the townofburlington.ca administrators will be taken if it is not justifiable according to these conditions. Such action would be in violation of the user agreement.

General Terms & Conditions

In the following:

"Activity" refers to any interaction a registered user has with the townofburlington.ca website, including communication with other users, uploading of photos and documents, and any other use of the website.

1. No user activity may be in violation of provincial or federal law. Such activity will result in immediate suspension or banning of the user, and, if necessary, the user will be reported to the appropriate authorities. This includes, but is not limited to, the following:
   
   • Uttering threats
   • Posting of pornographic material in prohibited spaces
   • Illegal trade of copyrighted information
2. No user, through site activity, may knowingly disrupt the activities of other users, or normal operation of the website. This includes harassment, spamming, and misuse or tampering of site functions. Violation may result in suspension or banning.
3. No user may possess multiple user accounts. If such an instance is discovered by site administrators, the user will be asked to disuse all additional accounts. If the user does not comply, the accounts will be immediately removed and the remaining account will be suspended. Further violation will result in banning.

In all above conditions, townofburlington.ca administrators will take appropriate action, which may include warnings, suspension of account, removal of account and permanent banning, and/or contacting of law enforcement authorities.

Specific Terms & Conditions

Photo Gallery

1. Posting of inappropriate material is prohibited. This includes pornography, disturbing images, violence, images dangerous to users with medical conditions, and any image which site administrators deem otherwise inappropriate for inclusion and public viewing. Photos in violation of this condition will be immediately removed and responsible users will be warned, suspended, or banned as necessary.
2. Photos must be posted in the correct category (i.e. gallery, album). If a photo is in the incorrect category, it will be moved accordingly.
3. In cases of excessively large photo categories, photos may be reorganized accordingly.

Discussion Forum

1. Harassment, excessive posting (i.e. spamming, flooding), or other disruptive activity will not be tolerated. Any post which is inappropriate or disruptive will be removed, and responsible users will be warned, suspended, or banned as necessary.
2. Townofburlington.ca reserves the right to publicise forum posts, or remove posted messages without warning.
3. The above also applies to the Shout Box (i.e. chat).

Buy & Sell

1. No item or service may be added to the Buy & Sell listings which is inappropriate or illegal. Such items will be immediately removed, and the responsible users will be warned, suspended, or banned.
2. Information provided on the Buy & Sell listings is expected to be accurate. Intentional misleading of users by submission of incorrect information is prohibited and will result in suspension/banning of the user responsible. (Some inaccuracy is unavoidable and will be allowed)
3. Listings which have expired will have to be resubmitted.

Documents Exchange

1. No user may post files which are in violation of the general terms & conditions. That is, files which are in violation of copyright, provincial or federal law.

Privacy Policy

Personal information provided by registered users (or any information in possession of site administrators pertaining to any site visitor) will, under no circumstances, be displayed by townofburlington.ca, nor used by site administrators, in any manner not clearly defined in the above or following terms. Nor will such information be disclosed to any third party, except if included in a site feature listed below, or if required by law, as described in the above sections.

• Personal information entered on the user registration form marked as "shown on profile" will appear on the user's profile, and any user lists which include those fields. Information not marked as "shown on profile" will not appear on the site.
• Townofburlington.ca is not responsible for the disclosure of personal information appearing to site visitors, or any subsequent result.
• Personal information disclosed by a registered user on any townofburlington.ca section, such as the photo gallery or discussion forum, is the responsibility of that user, and will not be modified or censored, unless it is in violation of the above sections or of the privacy of an individual or group.
